As a holiday destination Hungary offers visitors so much – from its’ beautiful unspoilt countryside and national parks to the fabulous Lake Balaton region through to the fascinating historical cities of Budapest and Pecs - Hungary has something for everyone.

Hungary is known for its extremely diverse natural landscape. Ranging from unspoilt marshland, steppes, bogs, river flats, pastures through to forests and meadows the countryside is populated by a fascinating mix of flora and fauna typical of the region.

With 9 National Parks and an equal number of Nature Parks plus over 200 thermal spas Hungary’s natural wealth is second to none. This is reflected in birdlife which is very diverse because many of the eastern species reach their western most breeding point here. The unspoilt natural environment of lakes, reeds, forest, wetlands, rivers make it very unique to other parts of Europe. It is not uncommon to spot well over 200 different species of birds in a weeks’ holiday.

The Lake Balaton area is particularly nice – Central Europe’s largest lake and over 40 times the size of Lake Windermere it is affectionately known as the Hungarian Sea. With water as warm as the Caribbean in summer and over two feet thick in ice in winter, the lake is the jewel in the crown.

With summer temperatures of 25 deg C and above Lake Balaton is an ideal destination for an inexpensive summer holiday with small resorts set amongst woodland – perfect for families with a wide range water sports, restaurants, shops and activities on offer.

On the southern shore of Lake Balaton it is flatter and has lovely beaches and from there you can see the wonderful sunsets behind the hills on the northern shoreline. The famous vineyards are on the north shore as are meadows, forests and ravines. At Heviz in the north west corner of the lake you have Europe’s largest thermal spa where the water temperature is in excess of 33 deg C all year around.

In Budapest and Pecs, Hungary has two of the nicest cities in central Europe. Steeped in history and wonderful architecture visitors should spend time exploring further and take advantage of.
